Mental illness = someone’s fault = terrible devastating belief

Common is the idea that mental disorders are all in a person’s head. Actually, they are far from a person’s control. Thankfully, emerging researches are breaking down this misconception by suggesting mental illness are a biological condition.
Depression and brain inflammation may be linked. The key may be the overproduction of cytokines. Depression may also be related to oxidative stress.
Mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia and anxiety, could be inherited.
People with anxiety may perceive the world differently. In fact, they usually experience lasting plasticity long after and emotional event ended.
Schizophrenia may be caused by genetic mutations, occurring during initial human development.
Phobias may occur because of an incontrollable brain response. In particular, it has been shown to be an overactive amygdala, that is the region responsible for emotional responses.
Social anxiety may be caused by high serotonin levels
