Here 3 good reasons to take a break

Good reasons to take a break

We all know our minds and bodies need a break from time to time, but often we are just so busy that we aren’t able to fit one in, so what do we do? We simply keep ploughing away. It’s important to remind yourself of the power of taking short breaks, as they can make you more focused and productive, as well as boost your mood. Read on to find out how.

1. Breaks stop us from losing focus

Focusing hard on one thing for a long time is not something humans are particularly adept at. For that reason, we need brief interruptions in order to get back on track and ensure that the ideas start flowing once again. As soon as you feel yourself stretching beyond that productivity zone, you know it’s time to take a break.

2. Breaks help us retain information

Our brains have two modes: focused mode and diffused mode, the latter being the dreamier, more relaxed one. You probably think that the focused mode enables you to be more productive, but actually they are both of equal importance – activity in many parts of the brain increases when we daydream and studies have shown that the mind solves some of its trickiest problems whilst daydreaming. This is because relaxation allows different parts of the brain to hook up and produce valuable insights.

3. Breaks help us reevaluate our goals

Another prime benefit of breaks is that they allow us to take a step back, look at the bigger picture and make sure that we are accomplishing things in the right way.
